Fifty plus women often assume that fifty means frumpy, without realizing that it can be quite a fabulous age. You just need little additions like tops with asymmetrical cuts, smart patterns, cardigans, and jackets that add to your style, and scarves that bump it all up. Classy and sophisticated scarves go a long way for not just women in their fifties and plus-sizes, but just about anyone.
From Dolce & Gabbana's jungle-inspired collection to Max Mara's army outfits and the numerous bulky, pocket-heavy jackets seen at Hermes, Stella McCartney, Jonathan Simkhai and Bottega, there was an injection of safari-inspired fashion across the collections, which you can channel in everything from shirts and shorts to jackets and belt bags for the season ahead.

A lot of women over 50 and sometimes 40 too find shopping to be a daunting experience because nothing seems to fit, not in the size sense but holistically. Contrary to this popular notion, the fashion industry is highly volatile and is proliferating, with all big names changing strategy to make clothes targeting all age groups alike, reassuring us that age is, after all, just a number. So there hasn’t been a better time than now to explore everything there is for you. Just remember to wear your confidence up your sleeve, no matter what. If you have any more questions, drop it in right here in the comment section. Take care!
There are some trends that may be better suited to the younger set (crop tops come to mind), but don't be afraid to embrace new waves in style that get you excited. All you have to do is find a way to work that trend into your personal wardrobe. For example, you may want to try the pajama dressing look, but find that pairing a silk sleep top paired with cropped black trousers works better for you than a full matched set. (It's a lot of look.)

I just turned 50, I wear a size 3, or 26", I am very active, run a horse breeding farm, burns a lot of calories. I love wearing short skirts, low tops, and heels, plus bikinis. My favorite jeans are by Miss Me. I have had a couple of plastic surgery procedures, most people guesstimate me to be 35-40. I feel 25. I am updating my wardrobe, adding some leather pieces, and nice sweaters, but I will dress young as long as I can!
While these eight style makers are by no means the only older women who can teach us a thing or two about style (hello, Iris Apfel), following along in their fashion journeys has taught us a thing or two about our own fashion inclinations. Just take one peek at these eight awesome trendsetters, and you'll see what we mean. Read on for a look at eight inspiring real women and then shop pieces for women of every age.

Tonal dressing has been gaining momentum in recent seasons and SS20 favoured top-to-toe white. Gabriela Hearst, Victoria Beckham, Ralph & Russo and Tom Ford layered up the white suit, while Pierpaolo Piccoli made the entire first section of the Valentino show stark white. Chanel, Pyer Moss and Off-White also used the colour heavily throughout their spring collections. Tricky to keep clean perhaps, but surely the most effortless way to look chic for the new season.

I agree with Catherine below. As a 51 year old, I like to wear what I want and that includes shopping at American Eagle Outfitter for jeans. I avoid low -waist jeans, but find they have a great variety of mid-rise to high-rise casual jeans at reasonable prices. I also own two pairs of Doc Martens shoes that I adore - one plain black and one floral - they are fun. Don't think it really matters - I say wear what you like and feel comfortable in. So what?

And just like that disco’s not dead. The wide collar favored by the Studio 54 set made a surprise comeback on the spring 2020 runways. Modernized on coats, jackets, and button-downs at Lanvin, Ferragamo, JW Anderson, and beyond, the look is often shown with contrasting colors to make it really stand out. Because what’s the point of a super collar if you can’t really see it?
Designers seemed to be turning to blues this season, but not in a moody way. At Molly Goddard, Stella McCartney and Boss, punchy bright blue shone through the collections in the form of tulle or pleated dresses and a pair of striking satin shorts stole the show at Staud. Prabal Gurung meanwhile created the ultimate bright blue power suit, while Preen's most talked-about design was that punchy tiered dress.

Much of the advice is okay, but in my opinion the need for advice is greater among younger women. Where I live, most women past 50 look far more stylish than many women in their twenties and thirties. And why do you say that "of course, our bikini days are over now"? I know women in their seventies and even eighties who still look great in a bikini.
Pack away those florals next spring because there is a new print in town. Polka dots were seen all over the catwalks, covering statement mini dresses at Richard Quinn, layered up at Max Mara, given a colourful spin at Erdem and worked into ladylike looks at Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors. Whether with your workwear or for a night out, polka dots are taking pride of place for the new season.
I started my channel in 2011 as a way to inspire other women to create a life they love! I’m a licensed hairstylist and makeup artist and have worked in the beauty industry my entire life. I currently work full time creating videos for this channel and my vlog channel. I got married in 2015 to my middle school sweetheart and had my first baby Julian in March 2018. I opened my online clothing store in 2018 called Good To Be where we sell trendy women’s clothing, accessories and our own merch line. I’m 26 years old and live in Michigan with my husband, our son and our cavalier King Charles named Colbie. We also recently bought a vacation home in Florida that we’re renovating.

We'll spare you the groundbreaking florals this season and instead, look to '60s and '70s wallpaper for your print fix. Retro prints ruled the runways—bringing both major color and pattern to all the top collections. Serving up mod home decor realness, vintage wallpaper (and couch) prints were channeled in the form of suiting at Prada and Marc Jacobs. Christopher Kane opted for a more psychedelic wallpaper print in the form of spring dresses, while Etro and Alberta Ferretti delivered a more bohemian-print option.
We all know that we dress one way for the beach, another way for church, funerals, weddings, etc. One would hope that as a woman matures, so does her sense of style. Gracefully say good-bye to the micro minis you wore at 16, skimpy half tops and very low rise pants that expose your midriff, seductive plunging necklines and sausage tight clothing that desperately cling to the bygone days of your youth.

What we won't deny is that finding inspiration when you're "of a certain age" can be difficult because fashion magazine spreads tend to ignore this demographic. However, celebrity dressing is a constant source of inspiring style for women of all ages, simply because our favorite stars are aging right along side us—like Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Helen Mirren and Viola Davis. (Can you believe she's 51?)
Every true fashionista knows that the real clothing magic takes place when you bring in the accessories. Strategically placed, a belt can help you change the contour of a dress or slouchy top; cinch it around the waist to achieve a perfect hourglass look or well above your waist to accentuate your bust and lengthen your legs. Try a brightly colored belt that contrasts with the hue of your other clothing, and then pick up that shade in a matching handbag or hat. VENUS also carries a line of unique fashion jewelry, including earrings, chokers and bracelets, which will help you finish off your look.
